Highclere Castle by Foundation Cigar Co.
Nick Melillo has teamed up with George Herbert, 8 th Earl of Carnarvon to create an intriguing new cigar named Highclere Castle. The great grandson of the 5 th Earl of Carnarvon who famously financed the dig that resulted in the uncovering of the tomb of King Tut, the 8 th Earl of Carnarvon is the owner of the cigar’s namesake, Highclere Castle, where the popular historical drama series Downton Abbey is filmed, and he and his family have a long history as cigar aficionados.
The Highclere Castle was created to replicate the characteristics of cigars from the early 1900’s. Produced in Esteli, Nicaragua at Tabacalera A.J. Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua, the Highclere Castle is made in small batches, utilizing the finest Connecticut Shade wrapper leaf. The Nicaraguan filler is Criollo and Corojo from Jalapa and Ometepe as well as an exclusive hybrid called Nicadán, and is bound by Mata Fina from Brazil. The result is a smooth and sophisticated smoke featuring flavors of pepper, citrus, leather, and “fireplace”. They are packed in elegant blue and gold boxes of 20 cigars, and will come in five sizes: Petit Corona 5 x 42, Corona 5½ x 46, Robusto 5 x 50, Toro 6 x 52, and Churchill 7 x 48. This refined cigar is sure to impress the most discriminating of palates.
