The Macanudo Estate Reserve
The Macanudo Estate Reserve is a limited-release cigar that resulted from a one-of-a-kind collaboration between the Macanudo cigar makers and Flint Knoll, a boutique Napa Valley winery.
To add to the cigar's complexity, the tobacco used to make it was aged in Flint Knoll's French Oak barrels, the same barrels used to produce their single vineyard Cabernet. This unique aging process is what makes the Macanudo Estate Reserve a special stand-out cigar.
General Cigar Co.
The General Cigar Co. is one of the world's largest cigar manufacturers, known for producing premium cigars.

They are timeless, world-renowned cigars, each one with a delicate balance of flavor and intensity, perfect for every occasion. Most of them are mild smokes, while the Macanudo Inspirado Black line is one of their strongest cigars.

Flint Knoll Winery
It was not by accident that the Macanudo Estate Reserve cigar decided to collaborate with the Flint Knoll winery, located in Napa Valley, California.
They craft quality, world-class Cabernet Sauvignon wines and are staffed by an experienced winemaking team. The lead winemaker is Philippe Melka, who has 30 years of experience in Bordeaux, France, and Napa Valley, California.
According to the Flint Knoll winery website, what drives their winemakers is a passion to craft classic, quality wines that are elegant and timeless. This makes it a perfect fit for the mission and standard of excellence demanded by the Macanudo brand.
The Epic Collaboration
The decision to collaborate with Flint Knoll winery in Napa, California, to make the Macanudo Estate Reserve was born of the coming together of two artisanal crafts—cigar making and winemaking.
When the tobacco used to make the cigars ages in Cabernet barrels at the winery, it adds a rich flavor to the cigars and also pairs beautifully with wine made in the same barrels. The Flint Knoll winery describes the Macanudo Estate Reserve as two the coming together of two products made by skilled masters in the fields of both cigar making and winemaking.
How is Tobacco Aged in Wine Barrels?
Traditionally, winemakers age their wines in barrels, with the barrels delivering extra character to the wine.
French Oak barrels are often winemakers' preferred barrel choice because they impart complex and toasty flavors to the wine. The insides of the barrels are burnt with torches to help deliver aroma and flavor, with more toasted barrels delivering a deeper oak-like flavor.
Tobacco also benefits from the depth of flavor offered by the dark, wooden barrels. Once the tobacco is in the barrels, the fermentation process begins, causing the tobacco to release by-products, which the barrel then absorbs and filters out.
The leaves pick up flavor from the barrel's oak walls, but they must be turned to make sure they benefit fully from the oak. These richly flavored barrel-aged tobacco leaves are excellent when used as filler for cigars.
Sometimes the change of flavor created by aging the tobacco in oak barrels is minimal but enough to enhance the profile of the cigar and elevate the smoking experience.
Cabernet Sauvignon Wines and the Macanudo Estate Reserve Are a Perfect Fit

With an intricate, round flavor, the cigar is perfectly accompanied by the lush, ripe tannins and rich feel and quality of the Cabernet Sauvignon made by Flint Knoll. The shared flavor profile created by the aging process in French Oak barrels adds another layer of continuity of flavor.
For a wine to stand up well with the Macanudo Estate Reserve, it has to have the body, intensity, and personality to match it—and the Flint Knoll Cabernet is the right wine.
