K by Karen Berger: A Robust Cigar Bursting With Bold Flavor
When Kiki Berger died at age 56, cigar aficionados weren't sure what would happen to the brand. Lucky for us, Karen Berger continued the important work her husband began.
Our modern cigar queen popularized a new cigar, the K, in 2016 (Queen Catherine of France popularized tobacco way back in the 1500s). She debuted a new option at the IPCPR Convention & Trade Show in Las Vegas in July of last year. It's a box pressed cigar, while it's two predecessors, the Habano and the Maduro, are round.
Here are all the reasons you're going to love the bold flavor of the K by Karen Berger.
1. Number One Reason to Love The K Cigar by Karen Berger
The aromas are fantastic. The Connecticut starts with the spice of black pepper and fruit. You'll also detect earthy, creamy tones throughout the experience. By the end, you'll get a small amount of bitter you'll recognize if you like Connecticut wrappers.
The other two wrappers (more detail below) at true Nicaraguan puro wrappers from Estelí, and they have some walnut and cocoa aromas. Overall, the cigar has excellent complexity in its toasted flavor.
2. All the Options
This cigar comes in boxes of ten cigars each. You can choose from 3 vitolas, a 5x52 (Robusto), a 6x52 (Toro), and 6x52x58 (Salomon).
You also have 3 wrapper choices. The newest is the Connecticut (the box pressed one). There's also the Habano and the Maduro.
3. Affordability
It's normal for a good cigar to set you back $25-50 per cigar. And it's worth it because you get good flavor for your money.
But with the K, you get both the amazing flavor you're looking for and amazing prices. Depending on the options you go with (above), you'll spend about $10 a cigar. For example, the Connecticut Salomons are $99.50 a box.
4. A Rich History
Cigars have been around since ancient times. We know because the Mayans depicted men smoking cigars on their vases. But this cigar comes from a brand that Don Enrique "Kiki" Berger began, with its own vibrant story.
His father, Max, moved from Poland to Cuba during World War II and bought many tobacco farms and factories. Don Kiki grew up in the industry, and when Castro gained power, the family moved once again to the US.
Eventually, Don Kiki inherited the family business and later capitalized on the resurgence of cigars in the mid-1990s. He began making his own cigar brand at Tabacalera Estelí in Nicaragua, and they grew in popularity. The cigar executive still split his time between the farm and the family cigar store in Miami until he died in 2014.
Bursting with Flavor
Karen Berger's passion for continuing the brand's history is only one aspect of the K cigar that makes it a great experience. You'll also love the aromas, varied options, and affordability.
