While some people smoke cigars on a daily basis, many only pull them out on special occasions.
Cigars became popular in the 1800s but now come with a certain amount of culture.
If you want to start smoking cigars, you have to know how to do it the right way. Here are 5 tips you should know:
1- Cut Your Cigar
Before you can smoke it, you need to know how to cut a cigar. The easiest way to do this is with a purpose-built cigar clipper.
You may have noticed that men bite the end of their cigars off in the films. This is for dramatic effect. In fact, you should never bite the end of a cigar off. Use a sharp knife if you don't have cigar clippers.
Cut the end of the cigar in a quick motion to not tear the tobacco.
2- Use the Correct Lighter
When learning how to smoke a cigar, you should use the right lighter. A butane torch is your best option because it won't go out.
Matches are great for experienced smokers but not a good option for newbies. If you do opt for matches, you should use long wooden matches, not paper ones.
Paper matches, gas lighters, and scented candles will affect the taste of your cigar.
3- Start Smoking Your Cigar
Many learning how to smoke cigars inhale, a key reason why they end up coughing their guts up for the following few minutes.
Cigars are not like cigarettes. You shouldn't inhale the smoke. You should savor the flavor by holding the smoke in your mouth. Once you've tasted the flavor of the smoke, blow it out.
Some of the best cigars for beginners include Olivia Serie G and Perla Del Mar Natural.
4- Rotate Your Cigar
A cigar lasts anywhere between 2 and 3 hours.
When you smoke it, it can burn in an uneven way. This means that one side of the cigar burns and the other doesn't.
To keep your cigar in good form, remember to rotate it. We recommend you do this every 30 to 60 seconds.
Also, you don't have to tap ash off your cigar like you would with a cigarette. The bigger the ash, the better the quality of the cigar.
Once the ash gets to about an inch, roll it on the ashtray to remove it.
If you decide you don't want to smoke a whole cigar, don't put your half-smoked one back in your humidor. You may ruin the quality of your other cigars.
5- Remove the Band at the Right Time
Every cigar has a band. This band stops the cigar from tearing. Once you have cut and lit your cigar, you don't need the band anymore.
After 10 to 15 puffs, the band will start to fall off because of the heat. As soon as this happens, remove it.
